glossary details

Storing data in a way that reduces the file size. This is not always a good method of storing digital photos, because some compression methods sacrifice image quality (in the form of artifacts) for smaller file sizes.(see Artifacts). With image compression, you must expect to loose image quality and detail. If compressed images are being used for large size projects (e.g. memoPRINT photo posters) - you might not be satisfied with the quality of a compressed image. The memoPRINT photo editing software will show a warning sign in case images are compressed too much to show optimal photo print quality.
